Many of the SEM images have lost all detail and are not usable as reference for failure analysis; more than a few images are completely black. The 1993 version can be downloaded for free from NASA, so I don't know why they even offer this.

This handbook was produced with the intention of providing failure analysts who work with spaceflight metals a reference of SEM fractographs of fracture surfaces produced under known conditions. The metals and the fracture conditions were chosen to simulate situations that are encountered in spaceflight applications.
