I only give it four stars because the author is weak on analysis. Nowhere does he really explain why the USSR started out roughly even with||Thanks to Gruntman's scholarly diligence, analytical skills, masterful ability to translate Russian texts, and superb writing style, we have a technically dense but easily comprehensible account of the roots of a system that remains an active bulwark in Russia
